I visited five missions in San Antonio. The Alamo, originally known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, is the most well-known of the missions. However, the Alamo is located in downtown San Antonio. With San Antonio being the 7th most populated city in the United States, the amount of land surrounding the Alamo is just a small fraction of what comprised the original site. The remaining four missions are spaced approximately three miles apart from each other. By the time you reach the most remote of the missions, Mission San Francisco de la Espada, you are about 12 miles from the Alamo.
