Memorial chapel of Reverend Emil Joseph Kapaun (1916–1951), U.S. Army chaplain and Medal of Honor recipient, within the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 430 N Broadway Avenue in Wichita, Kansas on September 24, 2026. The marble tomb rests between polished granite columns, surmounted by a bronze crucifix against a triptych of blue and violet panels symbolizing heaven and sacrifice. A portrait of Father Kapaun stands beside the tomb, honoring his courage and faith during the Korean War, where he ministered to soldiers in captivity and died in service. His remains were returned to Kansas in 2021.
