During my last road trip from Chicago to Seattle and back, I visited 9 state capitols, including South Dakota, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Nebraska and Iowa. Just a few weeks prior to this trip, I visited the state capitols in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Late last year, I visited the state capitols in New Mexico and Oklahoma. Just prior to that, while driving to Yellowstone, I visited the buildings in Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. Over this past Winter, I took day trips to the state capitols in Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. I visited the capitol building in my home state of Illinois a couple of years ago.

A few years ago, I visited the Minnesota state capitol. Although that capitol is included in my total count of 21, I'll need to revisit that building. Back then, I didn't have my approach refined yet, and the only decent shot I have of the Minnesota building is of its exterior.

That's a lot of capitol buildings! 22 down, 28 to go!

During this upcoming Winter, I plan to take short trips to Kentucky and Tennessee. Also, a trip to the Northwest would enable me to visit several state capitols in a reasonably short amount of time. After all, I have visited many of the more remote buildings--the ones that are spread hundreds of miles apart from each other.
