Last Fall, I took a photography trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains for the first time. Unfortunately, just days before my arrival the area experienced powerful storms with high winds and rain. The trees lost many of their leaves and the Fall colors weren't nearly as spectacular as they could have been.

The slopes of Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina retained some nice colors. Fellow photographer, Earl Evans, guided me to an excellent vantage point for viewing the iconic Lynn Cove Viaduct.

Before this trip, I wasn't at all familiar with this iconic structure. Soon afterwards, I realized that this scene should have been more familiar to me.

After a full day of photography, we returned to our cabin located just a few hundred yards from the Blue Ridge Parkway. I grabbed my well worn Rand McNally Road Atlas from my car so that we could better plan the next day's activities. To my surprise, I noticed the scene on the cover of the atlas for the first time:

It really is a small world!
