The Morning After

Last week, I took a short trip to Holland, Michigan. My plan was to photograph the tulips. The Tulip Time Festival ran from May 2nd through May 9th. Rather than visiting during the festival, I timed my trip to arrive in Holland shortly after the festival ended. This allowed me to capture photographs of the tulips, and many other interesting subjects, without the crowds. Click here to view photographs from my trip.

Following are some pictures of a large field of tulips without anybody in the frame. Capturing this picture would have been impossible during the festival. This particular location, Veldeer's, is crowded with hundreds of people walking through this field during Tulip Time. During my visit, I was the only person there for the first two hours of my visit. Then, four or five people finally arrived.

There are parades, a carnival, concerts, demonstrations and even fireworks. So, next time a visit to Holland during the festival will provide a whole new shooting experience.
